The addition of this Urbana, Ohio-based tungsten carbide manufacturer will significantly expand Hyperion’s ability to serve the US aerospace and defense industries.

WORTHINGTON, Ohio, Oct. 14, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Hyperion Materials & Technologies (Hyperion), a leading global manufacturer of tungsten carbide and diamond tool blanks and wear parts for the aerospace, defense, electronics and global manufacturing industries, has acquired The Ultra-Met Company (Ultra-met), an Urbana, Ohio-based manufacturer of custom-molded tungsten carbide products for defense, aerospace, and general industrial manufacturing.

The addition of Ultra-met increases Hyperion’s capabilities to serve the aerospace and defense industries, where Ultra-met works closely with the US Department of War in the development and delivery of advanced defense solutions. Both Ultra-met and Hyperion have a history of sourcing a substantial portion of their carbide from Western producers, which, when combined with their decades of carbide manufacturing excellence, makes them ideal partners for components and tooling for critical defense and aerospace systems.

“With global supply chain instability tied to critical materials like diamond and carbide, the US defense industry needs stable western suppliers to meet their components and tooling needs,” said Ron Voigt, CEO of Hyperion. “Adding Ultra-met to the Hyperion family of companies is a step to building the robust, reliable supply chain of Western-sourced carbide that can play a critical role in protecting the availability of tools and components critical to our aerospace and defense infrastructure.”

“Ultra-met’s tungsten carbide manufacturing excellence and its position as a mission-critical materials provider make it an outstanding addition to the Hyperion platform,” said Josh Weisenbeck, Partner at KKR and Board Member of Hyperion. “We're excited to welcome Neil Cordonnier and the entire Ultra-met team to Hyperion as we work together to strengthen our position in the aerospace and defense supply chain. We look forward to supporting the next phase of growth together."

With over 60 years of manufacturing experience supplying tungsten carbide blanks and custom components, Ultra-met has built a reputation as a choice American supplier of advanced defense products and advanced carbide components for a variety of tooling applications.

“We’re looking forward to leveraging Hyperion’s reach and materials capability to bring our expert solutions to a broader market, and bring a more complete portfolio to key industries, including aerospace, defense and energy,” said Neil Cordonnier, President of Ultra-met.

Ultra-met employees will join Hyperion’s broad-based ownership program, which provides employees with the opportunity to participate in the benefits of equity ownership.

Hyperion’s acquisition of Ultra-met was completed on October 1, 2026, following customary regulatory approvals and completion of certain pre-closing conditions.
